The next conference of the Johannes-Althusius-Gesellschaft will be held in Erlangen, Germany, from September 28th to 30th, 2023. The topic will be “Authority, War and Peace in the Political Theory of the Early Modern Age.
The significance of war and peace has been brought to our attention violently last year. The role of authority – covering the early modern state and other forms of political rule – in war and peace was an issue of the early modern political theory as well. In this context, war and peace are not only relations between nations or states but comprise the inner aspects of peace within a political community, particularly in a period, in which “within” or “outside” a political order could not be defined in the same way as in the 21st century. The manifold aspects of “authority, war and peace” shall be topics of our discussion.
