The publication of the newest issue of the Revue d’histoire du protestantisme (Vol. 10, No. 4, 2025), founded in 1852 under the name of Bulletin de la Société d’Histoire du Protestantisme, is dedicated to the quincentenary of one of the most influential theological controversies in European history: the debate between Erasmus and Martin Luther.
Titled “Érasme et Luther, histoire et réception d’un débat,” this issue brings together a rich collection of scholarly articles exploring the origins, development, and lasting impact of the famous dispute on free will. Contributions include studies on Erasmus’s evolving thought, Luther’s understanding of the De servo arbitrio, the clarity of Scripture in their controversy, and the broader medieval and early modern context.
Alongside the thematic dossier, the issue also features a Chronicle of the Bibliothèque du Protestantisme Français, a selection of book reviews, and a tribute in the form of a necrology.
