Schnell & Steiner Verlag, celebrating its 90th anniversary, is present at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2023. We took the opportunity to ask managing director Felix Weiland how he looks at the past and to the future.
The publishing house Schnell & Steiner offers an extensive and high-quality publishing program with about 4,500 available titles. They are a well known publisher for art history, architecture, archeology, and cultural history. For 75 years the publisher has been uninterruptedly present at the Frankfurter Buchmesse.
We asked managing director Felix Weiland how heĀ looks at the past and to the future.
“These 90 years were full of change in the industry for publishers. We began our history with our short guides for churches, monuments, castles and so on. After that, in the 90s, we built up a new book segment and since then we published 80-100 books per year.”
Weiland is hopeful for the future. He thinks there is a future for printed publications, but he sees the need to generate new ideas for digital publications and maybe he wants to invest in e-books and open access. “For now, we must find our way in this quickly changing market, but we are hopeful. We do not want to change the running system, but we have to invest in digital processes. There is much to do and I am looking forward to it.”
