Das Nicaeno-Constantinopolitanum in seiner Bedeutung für Martin Luther und Philipp Melanchthon

The Nicene Creed can be considered the most important creed of ecumenism. In most churches and denominations it enjoys a high level of recognition and important ecumenical associations have explicitly committed themselves to it. But what about the reception of the Nicene Creed in the Reformation period? What was the significance of this confessional text in the sixteenth century? Jennifer Wasmuth investigates these questions on the basis of a detailed examination of the authoritative writings of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon. As a result, it is shown how the Nicene Creed could become a core text of normative Lutheran doctrine.
